SPRC receives ESG Credit from Thaipat Institute

Emphasizes the SPRC Business Conduct with Care and Responsibility

18 January 2024 – Star Petroleum Refining Public Company Limited (SPRC), one of leading petroleum product producers in Thailand and among the most efficient refineries in the Asia Pacific region, has been granted ESG Credit from Thaipat Institute in accomplishing their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) on fence-line air quality monitoring system installation project in 2023 period.

ESG Credit is granted to certify the projects and the initiatives that benefit society and the environment, which is issued in form of ESG credit by Thaipat Institute. The assessments of which are based on the size of the project that has positive impact on the society and environment, such as green investment1

Star Petroleum Refining PCL. (SPRC) has received ESG Credit of 5,732,266 units from green investment, as defined in Guidance on Core Indicators for Sustainability and SDG2 Impact Reporting as suggested by UNCTAD3 in fence-line air quality monitoring system installation project.

Dr. Pipat Yodprudtikan, Chairman of Thaipat Institute revealed that Thaipat Institute is pleased that Star Petroleum Refining has been certified ESG credit from fence-line air quality monitoring system installation project, in response to the Sustainable Development Goal No. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, Target 12.4: achieving the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment.

SPRC has studied the project to install Fence-line Air Quality Monitoring System since the year 2020. This project will be an effective system to monitoring air quality and effective tools for our odor surveillance to provide historical measurement of the air quality along our fence-line, as well as a proactive alert, earlier troubleshooting to response to a potential event, facilitates communication to stakeholders, which will help mitigate consequences and reduce complaints. The project also provides analysis and risk assessment tools to determine the necessary responses in the event of a release in the facility and will aid the understanding of and communication of a potential impact to the nearby communities. The project value of fence-line air quality monitoring system installation in the 2023 period accounts for 57.32 million Baht.

The fence-line air quality monitoring system consists of fence-line monitoring, continuous emission monitoring, meteorological for analyzing air quality monitoring system. The program is flexible to extract data for creating the environmental information in visual form and can be combined for analyzer for forecasting. This project will be completed in year 2024.

ESG Credit is an initiative of Thaipat Institute which enables business sector to bring their projects that met qualifying criteria register for receiving and benefitting ESG credits in communicating corporate sustainability advancement in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) with ongoing credit aggregation from the qualified projects and activities.
